For the month of April, National Disability Institute (NDI) will join with nonprofits, financial institutions and individuals across the country to recognize National Financial Capability Month. This observance, also commonly referred to as Financial Literacy Month, is a time for all Americans to increase their knowledge of personal finances and to encourage others to do the same.
As the nation’s preeminent nonprofit dedicated to championing economic empowerment for all Americans with disabilities, NDI will engage in a month-long initiative to help individuals across the spectrum of disability begin building a better and more secure financial future for themselves and their families.
The theme of NDI's 2017 Financial Capability Month campaign is "Your Financial Capability Roadmap."
Financial Capability Focus Areas
Throughout the month, NDI will share daily resources on social media to help those with disabilities and their families build brighter financial futures. Each week, these resources will specifically focus on the following topics:
Week 1: Taxes and Tax Preparation
Week 2: Budgeting and Money Management
Week 3: ABLE Accounts and Savings for People with Disabilities
Week 4: Credit and Debt Repayment
Follow NDI (@RealEconImpact) on Facebook and Twitter to find and share these daily resources.
Financial Capability Roadmap Blogs
For Financial Capability Month, NDI will feature a six-part blog series about discovering your personal roadmap to financial wellness. The series will explain five key strategies that help people with disabilities develop financial well-being, including 1) Public Benefits & Work Supports, 2) Employment, 3) Free Tax Preparation & EITC, 4) Financial Education, and 5) Asset Development.
Additionally, NDI's blog will feature guest blog posts from other organizations, such as the Autism Housing Network and Center for American Progress, among others.
